The CAIA India Chapter is pleased to invite you to attend an exclusive education and networking event at the WeWork BKC, Mumbai. CAIA Senior Executive, Nelson Lacey, Director of Examinations will be joining us for an insightful presentation on "Valuation Techniques in Both Private and Public Markets" on April 18, Thursday at 6:30 PM.

During this talk, Nelson will explore valuation techniques using various examples, ranging from simple securities like plain vanilla zero-coupon bonds to more complex cases such as little-known technology start-ups. Valuation models typically begin with scientific tools like discounted cash flow analysis, but often require the incorporation of more subjective techniques such as comparables, trends, appraisals, and provenance to provide a comprehensive assessment of worth. While the estimation of value in traditional markets tends to reach a consensus among analysts using market data, the private alternative markets can present challenges of subjectivity. For instance, consider India's Byju, an educational firm with a recent valuation that is only 1% of previous estimates. Similar examples can be found in India and elsewhere, highlighting the unique dynamics of the private alternative markets.

Participants will be taken through illustrative examples that demonstrate the art and science of valuation. Attendees are encouraged to bring local examples that can contribute to the discussion by supporting or challenging common wisdom.
